The Best Way To Clean An Ice Maker

An ice maker absolutely must be sanitized because you can become sick when consuming the ice cubes from the unsanitized machine. Also, if the ice maker is not cleaned periodically, it is more likely to break down.
Removing the Ice Maker
To clean it, begin by unplugging it and removing all of the ice. Some ice makers have a power bar you must lift up to stop it from making ice. If you aren't certain that your ice maker has been turned off, unplug your entire refrigerator. Wait ten minutes for the ice maker to stop making ice.
There is usually a cap that releases the water when unscrewed. Unscrew the cap and allow the water to drain out. Then, screw the cap back into place. Then, remove the bin from the ice maker. Pour out the ice into the sink. If there is a lot of ice and it is rapidly filling up your sink, run the hot water to melt the ice more quickly or use a knife to break the ice up if it is a large chunk.
Wiping Down the Ice Maker
Run warm water over a dishtowel. Add dish detergent to the towel. There are also ice maker cleaners you should consider. After you have completely wiped down the ice maker, use a dry rag to dry the machine completely. Open the freezer and look for ice chips that have built up nearby the ice maker. Use a lukewarm rag to wipe down the ice chips. Then, you can put the ice maker back in place, turn it on and plug the refrigerator back in.
Using the "Clean" Button
If the ice maker has a switch labeled "clean," you can use an ice maker cleaner to automatically clean the machine. First, drain all of the water out of the ice maker. Then, fill the machine with the cleaner. Activate the "clean" switch. Remove all of the ice and then remove the ice maker. Then, unscrew the drain cap and allow the remainder of the cleaner fluid to exit the machine. Then, you can put the machine back into the freezer.
Cleaning the Condenser
The condenser needs to be cleaned to prevent the ice maker from failing. You will need to first remove the freezer from the wall. Then, unplug the freezer. Remove the condenser cover. Vacuum away dirt and debris. Then, replace the condenser cover, plug the refrigerator back in and put the freezer back in place.
